|Large diameter rope ideal for Rapid Intervention Teams (RIT) featuring a firm construction. Sterling RIT rope is easy to pack & allows for locating rope w/gloved hands. |
Heat resistant / high strength search & personal escape line (PER) and ideal tag line.
Sterling produces an extensive and proven line of high performance Fire Rescue and Escape Ropes. Their escape ropes are engineered to balance a technical, durable sheath with a strong, yet supple core to provide outstanding performance for critical applications and challenging environments
The RIT Response was designed for RIT/RIC use in fireground search and rescue. The flexibility of this rope facilitates packing and deployment, while the diameter allows it to be located and handled with gloved hands in low visibility conditions. The heat resistant sheath provides security and strength, protecting against high temperatures and allowing for victim extrication.
Residual Strength After Heat Exposure:
- Abrasion & cut resistant tag line
- Provides optimal handling, and high strength
- Available with proprietary sewn eye terminations using Technora thread
- Meets the NFPA standard for PER
- Heat resistant sheath to 932° Fahrenheit (500° Celsius)
- Nylon core heat resistant to 480° Fahrenheit (260° Celsius)
- A great choice as a primary or personal search line
- High resistance to chemicals, especially acids and alkali's
The chart below approximates the strength of Sterling’s escape ropes after being exposed to high heat for over an hour. This is based upon heat tests conducted by Teijin Ltd on their Technora and Twaron fibers. Fibers were heated to temperatures of 482°F/250°C, then tested at 68°F. Tests were repeated at 662°F /350°C. In their tests, Technora fibers maintained 99% of their break strength after an hour in temperatures above where nylon melts. Nylon melts at 428°F/220°C.
The red and blue lines are indicative of how Sterling’s FireTech (100% Technora) Escape rope, and RIT 900, (100% Twaron) Search rope, should perform after exposure to high heat relative to a nylon rope (green line) that would likely have melted. The fiber tests offer a compelling reason to choose the original and innovative FireTech as your escape rope. However, any of our escape ropes using Technora or Twaron in their sheath constructions offer huge benefits of heat resistance over nylon cords.
(Twaron and DuPont’s Kevlar® have very similar properties. This chart is used for demonstration purposes. Actual strength of ropes after being exposed to high temperatures depends on many factors.)
Sterling rope certified to NFPA 2012 Edition for escape rope and CE 0120.
