Pieps DSP Outstanding Range |
All around, in all directions!

Ranges previously only seen with analog beacons are now reached by the PIEPS DSP (DSP= Digital Signal Processor) using digital filter technology.

One of the main goals for the PIEPS development team was to create the best possible “useful range” for an avalanche beacon. All other beacons available on the market feature a more or less elliptical receiver range. That means different ranges result depending on the orientations of the receiver antenna in relation to the position of the transmitter antenna. (best range with antennas “face to face”, worst range usually if antennas are angled by 90°)

The international standard for avalanche beacons EN 300718 allows a frequency deviation of the transmitted signal of +/- 80 Hz. A decrease of range is the result for most other receivers.

For practical use two facts are important:
- Range in worst coupling position
- Receiver range with transmitter signals and the limit of the allowed deviation of +/- 80Hz
|
The PIEPS DSP was optimized in terms of “circular receiver range” (same range in all antenna orientations) and constant receiver range over the whole frequency range.
